Reading a stone honestly

Not every stone needs a story.

We’ve all seen jewellery described with words like healing, abundance, protection or energy.

And while people have believed in the symbolic meaning of stones for centuries, we think there’s value in looking at them a little more honestly too.

A stone can simply be beautiful. It can remind you of somewhere you’ve been.

You can like the colour.

You can enjoy the weight of it in your hand.

You can believe in its symbolism.

Or you can believe in none of it.

All of those are valid reasons to wear it.

So what should you actually look for?

Start with the material itself, look at the colour. Is it naturally consistent or full of variation?

Look at the surface. Is it polished and smooth, or does it have natural texture?

Look at the shape. Are the beads perfectly uniform, or does each one differ slightly?

These details can tell you more about a stone than a long list of promises ever could.

Natural doesn’t mean perfect

Real gemstones and organic materials can have inclusions, variations and small differences & that’s normal.

In fact, those differences are often what make one piece feel distinct from another.

At JC, we don’t want to convince you that a stone will change your life. We’d rather tell you what it actually is.

Then let you decide what it means to you.

Because perhaps the most interesting thing about jewellery isn’t what someone says a stone represents. It’s what you end up associating with it yourself.
