arrecife is reef. half the strand is cut into even cylinders and half is left rough, the way the coral came out of the water. the two run against each other along the length, which is the whole idea.

coral is porous and softer than people expect — softer than a fingernail is hard. keep it off water, perfume and anything acidic. store it flat, not hanging.
